Common Usages Of High Voltage Contactor

By William McDonald

Electrical components carry current that needs to be controlled regularly. For this reason, there ought to be components connected to devices transmitting electricity. Markedly, a high voltage contactor is used to regulate current by allowing devices to be switched on and off. Various devices that must have fuses are explained in the paragraphs below.

Connectors have a number of applications. It is paramount to first understand the features of valves before delving into these applications. Contacts have three components. Each of these is designed to perform differently. The first part is known as a coil. Coils are used to power switches on or off. They are coiled to help pass current fast as well as cut it off. Secondly, there is a pole. Poles are suited for transmitting current. Then there are auxiliaries which panel and signals circuit usage.

Connectors are commonly applied in the paneling of lighting. Large buildings such as commercial as well as offices require that lighting is controlled from a central point. Great current switches are best suited for this due to their ability to transmit strong electrons. Since coils may consume more power in such applications, latching valves are used instead. These have two coils. One is powered temporarily hence suited for closing circuits. The opening coil is suited for establishing connections.

Next, contacts are used in vacuum switches. Such is designed to use vacuity bottles condensed valves for arc suppression. Suppression of arcs reduces contact size hence consume less space during excess currents. Encapsulation allows similar valves to be used in dirty environments like mining. Similarly, they may be used in numerous applications with medium currents of about 1000 to 5000 volts since they can efficiently displace circuit breakers filled with oil. These type of switches can only be used with alternating current. Therefore vacuum connectors can effectively be used to disrupt electric arc power as well as where quick lighting is necessary.

Thirdly, connectors are a common element of mercury relays. Mercury transmitters utilize liquid mercury in transmitting electric current. They are unique since mercury is stored in a properly sealed bottled with insulated inner surfaces. Insulation makes such contacts suitable for cycling surfaces which are prone to corrosion. These transmitters are however being discouraged because mercury is known to be environmentally hazardous.

Another usage is in mercury-wetted relays. These are transmitters whereby valves are first moistened with mercury before use. However, they may not be categorized as contacts due to the amount of voltage used. Normally, they operate on currents below 15 amperes, unlike other circuits.

Next usage is in transformers also known as the camshaft. Sometimes, several contacts may be used sequentially. In such cases, single electromagnets are ineffective thus the need for the camshaft. These camshafts are operated by a power-driven motor or air-filled cylinders. Initially, camshafts were vital in speeding up power-controlled locomotives. Additionally, they are applied in inner combustion machines which are used to control poppet valves.

Connectors may also be used in magnetic starters. These devices are important in starting electric locomotives. Valves are used to control the amount of energy transferred through coils. At any given time, contacts may not overload. For this reason, they are best for the provision of automatic circuit breaking.
