Playing The Game Of Risk On The Internet

By Jimmy Turkish

If you have never heard of the game of Risk then you are probably fairly young. If that is the case then you will likely be curious as to what exactly the Risk game is all about and why you might want to play an old game like this with all of the new games that are available out there today.

To put it simply, it is simulated world domination. In addition, if you are a fan of the popular social strategy apps such as Mafia Wars and Farmville, then this might be right up your alley.

The game of Risk starts when all players roll the dice to see who will be the first to take their turn, once this is decided the participants can begin claiming the territories on the playing board which are divvied out via a deck of playing cards which are dealt to the players. Play continues in a clockwise direction once the initial dice winner has taken his turn with each person placing color coded 'armies' onto the countries to denote their ownership.

After each player has claimed the territories shown on the cards they were dealt, game play begins in earnest. Building up forces and then using them to conquer the oppositions territory is the goal here but it is also important not to wear yourself too thin and leave yourself open to attack. Defending at a later time must also be taken into account if you are to win this game.

Put simply, Risk is a turn-based strategy game for two to six players, each controlling their own armies and attempting to take over the world by eliminating their opponents from their territories. Classically a traditional board game, it has entered the twenty-first century by introducing Online Risk.

Online Risk brings a whole new angle to the game by allowing players to play people from across the globe or alternatively against AI opponents, also available are Risk game downloads so that you can play on the PC when an internet connection is not available. On top of this, there are also many communities dedicated to the Game of Risk to be found online where you can discuss strategy and learn new tactics for free.

The game may sound quite simplistic when explained in the written word but don't be fooled into believing it. The amount of Risk strategy guides available along with the amount of forums discussing risk strategy should be quite enough to prove this point to you.

The great thing about risk and similar games to it, is the way they allow players to learn and grow with experience. It is well known that no 2 games will ever be the same while playing this game due to differing playing styles and attitudes. The dice do of course add an element of chance to the game but experience will usually win through, proving that this is truly a game of the mind once the basics are learned.
